Zwei Wochen kreuz und quer durch den Norden des Sultanats Oman mit einem Nissan-Patrol-Mietjeep (4,5 Liter Achtzylinder, Zusatztank). Das Motorrad musste diesmal zuhause bleiben – die geplante Israel-Jordanien-Tour musste wegen des Bürgerkriegs kurzfristig abgesagt werden.
Oman überrascht mit ungemein vielfältigen Landschaften auf kleinem Raum: Berge bis über 3.000 m, schroffe Felsenwüsten, fruchtbare Küstenebenen, Geröll und Sandwüste. Die Küste am Indischen Ozean bietet einsame Strände, auf denen Meeresschildkröten das ganze Jahr über nachts ihre Eier ablegen.
In Sur werden noch heute in traditioneller Technik die schönen Holz-Dhaus gefertigt. 4.100 km gefahren, ca. 60 % davon auf unbefestigten Wegen. Fotografiert mit der Mamiya 7 im 6×7 Mittelformat.
Two weeks criss-crossing northern Oman by hired Nissan Patrol (4.5-litre V8, auxiliary tank). The motorcycle had to stay at home – the planned Israel–Jordan trip had been cancelled at short notice due to the civil conflict.
Oman surprises with an extraordinarily varied landscape in a compact area: mountains above 3,000 m, rugged desert rock, fertile coastal plains, gravel and sand desert. The Indian Ocean coast offers deserted beaches where sea turtles lay their eggs throughout the year.
